Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)

If there’s a query which is health related the Patient Advice and  Liaison Service (PALS) will provide an answer. This can range from arranging foster care for the pet animals of the elderly while they are in hospital, to finding out what’s happened to a GP referral and other, much more complex and often unique, issues. Our largest number of queries are from people wanting an NHS dentist.

Why PALS?

PALS has been in existence nationwide for over six years now. PALS is a one stop shop for anyone who needs health related information. We’re here to help people who struggle to get the information they need from the large and complex NHS. We can help people from those who don’t want to bother the doctor, to those where something has gone wrong and they need it putting right and as soon as possible. 

Who can contact PALS?

Absolutely anyone can contact PALS. Obviously patients, their family and carers can contact PALS for help and advice but NHS professionals also access PALS for assistance. Why waste your time trying to find out the answer to a problem when PALS may have the answer at their finger tips? A lot of PALS queries come from patients whose GP has advised them to give PALS a ring.

When can I ring PALS?

We’re open from 8.30am to 5pm every weekday. There is an answerphone which is listened and responded to on the next working day. The answerphone message also tells callers how to get an emergency dentist both during the weekday and in the evenings. 

Where is the PALS office?

We’re at Brook House, John Wilson Business Park, Chestfield. Our services cover all of the NHS eastern and coastal Kent area and while we are a PCT we can help with advice for other parts of the health economy and other services related to health. During office hours people can drop in for face-to-face advice if they want. We also provide one-to-one stop smoking advice (as part of the East Kent Stop Smoking Service) and sexual health advice to the under 20’s (plus condoms and Chlamydia testing kits).
