Quality and standards

Standards for Better Health (SfBH)

NHS Eastern and Coastal Kent is pleased to report considerable improvement in its Standards for Better Health Declaration for 2008 to 2009 for the second year running.

Of the 43 standards, which cover all aspects of patient care and experience, the PCT is reporting compliance with 42 of them by March 2009, compared with only 15 in 2006 to 2007. The PCT still has work to do in the way we manage clinical records, although this too has improved from last year.

For the first time this year the PCT has had to declare on both the community services and it’s commissioning function. Please refer to the detailed reports for further information on the declarations.

This document is for self assessment, evidence and declaration.
These documents provide self assessments on the compliance of the PCT in relation to the Department of Health's Core Standards for Better Health for the period 1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008.

The PCT has made a self assessment against 24 core standards and 2,000 individual pieces of data covering all aspects of healthcare delivery.  These relate to a wide range of criteria from clinical governance, risk management, patient involvement and financial management to name a few.

Safeguarding Children Declaration of Assurance

In July 2009 the Care Quality Commission (CQC) published a report on their review of arrangements in the NHS for safeguarding children. In line with this, NHS Eastern and Coastal Kent has considered its own processes, procedures and policies with regards to safeguarding children and has worked with its partners to respond to initiatives and reviews at both national and local levels.

The PCT has completed a strategic review of safeguarding following reviews by the CQC, the Strategic Health Authority and the learning from the Baby Peter case, and has developed an action plan to implement the recommendations.
